Educational support is of crucial importance because only education can help children and young people acquire the knowledge and develop the skills they need to build a better future.
In this project, orphaned children from grade 10 to 12 are assisted with the payment of their examination fees, school fees, school uniforms and other necessities like a calculator or a school bag. Children apply for assistance by completing a form and they indicate their needs. This assistance gives the child the assurance that they can complete their year, without a constant fear of not having paid the necessary fees yet.
Most children living in this area do not have breakfast before coming to school in the morning. To concentrate while having an empty stomach is even for an adult very difficult, let alone for a child. The local schools lack the funds to provide a meal for the children and the government does not provide any assistance for food to most of our schools. This is reason enough for the Philadelphia Foundation to fill this gap with a school feeding program. Children receive a simple meal every morning during break time, which enables them to concentrate better, and which improves school results.
Many other school necessities, like pens, writing books, posters, sports equipment, and administrative facilities are lacking in the local primary schools and pre schools. As from 2009, the Foundation is more involved in helping the schools with fundraising activities, management and obtaining necessary educational aids.
